Ask the expert!!

Carmit Bachar is known as one of the original members of the multi-platinum, Grammy nominated, recording group The Pussycat Dolls. As a dancer she appeared with artist such as Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Macy Gray,  Jennifer Lopez, Aaliyah and No Doubt. She has also toured and  Janet Jackson and Ricky Martin

What was your first job ?
Dancing with my parents in their show;) age 3

Is it true that both your parents were performers?
Yes both were in the entertainment business. My father danced on Broadway and with Elvis. My mom modeled, did commercial work and they both did movies together. My father also had a dance company that toured 7 years before I was born and 7 years after. I always say I practically grew up on tour!

Were you a trained Dancer ?
Yes since I was 3 in all styles as well as rhythmic gymnastics.

Who is your Favorite  dancer of all time?
Cyd Charisse

Before you were in PCD  who did you dance for?
I was fortunate to have had a great career dancing and choreographing for some amazing artists including;
Michael & Janet Jackson
Beyonce
Ricky Martin
Gwen Stefani
Jennifer Lopez
Macy Gray
Aaliyah
PDiddy
& many more

Who have been your biggest personal and professional influences?
I have to say my parents were the biggest influence on my character and work ethic. They were absolutely my inspiration and biggest supporters. Their guidance helped me navigate through the business. Professionally, I feel blessed to have worked with some stellar artists. People that were genuine, humble and generous.

To me, that is everything. Talent is just the cherry on top. The diva thing is so old and not cool. I wouldn’t trade anything for all the awesome experiences I’ve had, including the bad because they made me appreciate the good ones! It’s all about having fun and loving what you do. If you can make a living at it as well, it is fortunate. My good friend Chonique Sneed and I always remind ourselves of that. We say this business is the only one where you can give 150% and get nothing in return. There is no guarantee, so you better really love it!!  Surround yourself with people that believe in you and lift you higher!

Do you have any superstitions or lucky charms for a performance?
I always do a vocal warm up but adding a touch of glitter and glam always gets me ready to go all out!

What the biggest audience you have ever performed to?
PCD in the phillippines and Ricky Martin in Chile for Vina Del Mar

What’s your Favorite style of Dance?
A fusion of hip hop, funk and jazz

What was the best experience of your career to date?
That’s hard… I definitely can’t choose one! Working with Michael Jackson, Live Earth at O2 and working with Aaliyah on Rock The Boat.

What are the three things you’d never travel or tour without?
My iphone, make up(specifically lashes) and boots or heels! You travel so much for your job any tips on jet lag ? I think I am so used to traveling, I adjust pretty well now lol I always watch movies and sleep on the plane. If I land in the evening, I try to stay up till it’s time to sleep in that time zone to get on a schedule. If needed, an ambien helps too ;-)

What’s your favorite Country & why?
I love the south of France! The energy is so sexy there! I feel alive, the people are living and enjoying life to the fullest and the food is delicious…

As a role model what advice would you give to aspiring dancers?
I’d say first and foremost, love what you’re doing or don’t do it. If you’re not fully committed, then it will be a waste of your time, if being in the industry is what you think you want. Otherwise, stay true to yourself and just do it for the love of it, not as a career.

In 2011 you had a baby  & with in weeks you start working  with the Pulse tell us about that?
Obviously, a baby is life changing but I couldn’t imagine being away from her so I took her with me when I started back up hosting The Pulse around the country. She came to Dallas when she was just under 7 weeks! Then New Orleans and Orlando. Most recently, she became an international jet setter when we came to London for Dance2LAX this past April!

Next stop is Dubai this May!

Tell us about your charity ?
Smile With Me is a foundation I was compelled to create. I felt it was my duty to contribute and give back somehow!  I was born with a cleft lip and palate and endured numerous corrective surgeries. My love for the arts got me through all the hard times. So, in turn I wanted to inspire children to be fully expressed through exposure of the arts. SWM’s mission is to build imagination and instill self esteem in children born with cleft lip/palate through creative arts and activities. Smile With Me! I’m also an ambassador to Operation Smile, which I have embellished on by taking SWM abroad and integrating into the mission.
